A quick and easy modification can be made to the lockblocks torch holder enabling you to attach any Fenix Torch to your mountain bike helmet, as well as the handle bars. Shown here is the Fenix L2D Q5 attached to a Giro Semi MX MTB helmet with the Twofish Lockblocks holder:
In this example I removed the velcro strap that normally wraps around the bikes handle bars, and replaced it with a longer one that used to be a cable tidy. The strap is run through two vents in the helmet and pressed together on the inside. On many helmets the original velcro strap supplied can be used, but in this case it wasn't long enough due to the large distance between the vents on the helmet. Cable ties can also also be used instead of velcro offering a more permanent fixing. Every helmet is different, so you will need to experiment to find best positioning for your particular model. Helmets with lots of vents such as the Giro Skyla, Giro Indicator and Giro Havoc etc. have lots of vents giving more positioning options than the model shown here. Once fully tightened the sticky rubber flattens out and moulds to the shape of the helmet, providing a solid and secure fixing.
This setup makes a great alternative to expensive helmet lights and offers real value for money. Perfect for winter evening singletrack sessions. See our GP NiMH rechargeable batteries for the most economical method of powering these AA torches, with longer run times than normal alkaline batteries.
